A Guide To Polzeath, Cornwall

A small but comprehensive, Polzeath Guide, full of top spots, suggested activities and attractions.

One of the UK's top surfing beaches, from beginners to experts, head to Polzeath. The beach covers a large area and is patrolled by lifeguards but be warned the tide can come up to the road, so if you're parking on the beach keep an eye out. For beginners there is some great surf schools try Wavehunters, but that's not all it has on offer, not up for surfing, go bodyboarding or swimming, or try other watersports like coasteering, stand up paddle boarding or sailing. Want to stay dry? There's still plenty to do, this area of Cornwall has some amazing views here are 2 suggested walks;

1) Head towards Pentireglaze where colourful vegetation will be to the right of you and a small cove off the main beach to the left and continue round the coastal path and ascend to reach Pentire Head, from the top look over camel estuary an area of outstanding natural beauty, if you want you can continue further round the coastline for the rumps

2) Polzeath to Rock will take you along the scenic coastal path with views over the camel estuary. It's an easy walk to follow, pass Trebretherick point to the sheltered Daymer Bay, with turquoise waters, continue past the sand dunes covered in marram grass, which are often fenced off for restoration as they are deemed a site of special scientific interest. The estuary its self is an area of marine conservation so look out for the wildlife. Reach Rock and you'll see generally calm waters, at low tide explore the rock pools, and see the mudbanks, sandbanks and salt marches become exposed. You'll also notice the enormous houses which line many of the roads in Rock, some of these are second homes to some of the rich and famous.

Fancy something more tranquil, try a morning yoga class on the beach before the crowds descend, or book yourself a treatment at the Cowshed Spa at the St Moritz Hotel, take a stroll along the coastal path and you'll find some hidden coves you may even have them all to yourself.

Stay in Trebretherick, Daymer Bay, Polzeath or New Polzeath.

Take day trips to; Tintagel, Boscastle, Padstow, Harlyn Bay, Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth and the Eden Project.
